Summer Time is Travel Time

It's summer time and it goes without saying that family trips are also here. For first time parents like us, travelling with a toddler could be a great challenge. Not that we have been travelling, but I've been thinking about it and thought about ways of how we'll manage when the time comes.

Just recently, we were able to travel and visit my parents in Nueva Ecija. It's usually a 3-4-hour-drive from Manila via NLEX, but it seemed like everybody was headed the same way. It took as 6 hours. Our fambam's first time to travel with Ava the toddler that long.

Luckily, our little happy belle didn't seem to bother the long drive. And it also helped that we brought some stuff that kept her busy.

Here's my take on what you can do while travelling with your toddler:

Carseats

The use of carseats in our country is not as strict compared to others. I am also guilty of this, most of the time, we're good with Ava just sitting on my lap either in the front passenger seat or at the back. But I think we should all practice safe travelling especially when we are with our children. Make sure they are all buckled up comfortable and secured. Unlucky for us, we just realized that our darling daughter already outgrew her infant car seat. So we had to take her out from it and just settle at the backseat while Mr. T drove carefully. That's why we're already looking at getting front-facing carseats so the next time we go for a long drive, Ava is already safely buckled up. :)

Food

As I have posted before, we are practicing Baby-Led Weaning when it comes to feeding our daughter, and it made Ava love food from the beginning. Thanks to BLW, it made our parenting life a lot easier. No need for me to pack and bring mashed and pureed food. All we needed was a tumblr of water and a bag or two of snack-sized cookie bags. Then she ate what we had which was breakfast drive-thru from Burger King.

Sharing Corned Beef with Egg and Rice. Then French Fries.

Maybe some eyebrows will be raised seeing a photo of my daughter munching on some commercial french fries. But if you understand the concept of BLW, you'll know that it's ok to offer anything to your baby as long as it's in moderation.

Toys/Activities

Ava loves books. She loves flipping and browsing through pages of shapes, colors, animals and more. We also brought the sticker books we got for her a few weeks back. She still loves them even though the stickers and pages were already torn. We were also able to learn the things we saw along the road like animals, colors and other stuff.

Endless kuwentuhan along the road. :)

We also brought Mr. Bunny Rabbit along because Ava loves her stuff toys as well. She loves rocking them to sleep but looks like Mr. Rabbit did the job for her this time. :)

Even though we drove 6 hours, Ava didn't mind and just slept most of the time.

Our way back to Manila was a breeze. It only took us less than 3 hours with Ava sleeping most of the time.

Best tip I can give in travelling with your toddler: Take note of your baby's interests. No matter how many articles I read from parenting sites on "Tips in Travelling with a Toddler", if none of them interests my child, then there's no point really.

Happy travelling and let's enjoy the summer! :)
